6-inch Gaertner Refractor

Housing the historic 6", f/17 Gaertner Refractor, the Gaertner Observatory was the first permanent Observatory at Arunah. A gift of Smith College to the 5As in 1992; it was transferred to Arunah in 1993.

Designed by Joe Zuraw and built by Arunah Members, the Gaertner Observatory, completed in 1994, is elevated on 5' concrete stilts, in a roll-away building, providing ambient temperature and all year use.

The Gaertner is available to Members and Visitors.
