Camping is encouraged and Free at Arunah Hill.

Camping Facilities are in a natural state - harsh and pristine. It is important to give prior notification of planned camping. Camping alone, or being alone, at Arunah is highly discouraged.

The following rules were written for Arunah Hill by Boy Scouts Troop 550.

Arunah Hill Camping & Trails Rules

A. General Rules

  1. Abide By the Outdoor Code:
    • As an American, I will do my best to:
      • Be clean in my outdoor manners,
      • Be careful with fire,
      • Be considerate in the outdoors, and
      • Be conservation minded.
  2. No pets allowed on the mountain.

B. Cleanliness

  1. Leave the site as clean as you found it, if not cleaner.
  2. Anything that is brought to the site must be taken out.
  3. Keep the water sources clean.
    • Don’t dump trash or food near water sources.
    • Follow 200 yard rule of not going to the bathroom near water

C. Cooking

  1. All cooking is to be done away from shelters.
  2. Use Bear-muda Triangle.
    • Sump is a pipe with a mesh screen at about 11 O’clock from front of Scout Heaven.
    • Bring bear bag to store food in another point of the triangle.
  3. All cooking is to be done over fire pits in the clearing, the fire pit behind Raven’s Perch, and the pit 100 feet in front of Scout Heaven.
  4. Clean up any mess created while cooking.

D. Fires

  1. All fires are to be made in the fire pits.
  2. Fires must be watched and controlled.

E. Scout Heaven, Raven’s Perch, The Latrine

  1. Do not deface or write on anything.
  2. Responsible for any damage caused by your group to the area or facilities.
  3. If you arrive and there is already someone at the preferred site it is first come first serve.
  4. The Latrine
    • Do not damage the latrine in any way.
    • Do not throw trash or food into the pit.
    • Drop some ash from the recent fires to help decompose the contents

F. Trails

  1. Do not create new trails through the woods.
  2. Walk on the trails only.
  3. Do not go around the trail if it is muddy or eroded.
