The All-Weather Road is the primary access to the Observing Site and Summit. In 1989, only a foot path ran though the forest to the base of the Observing Site. For over a decade, work has progressed on the roadway. Culverts have been put in, a brook was crossed, and deep quagmires over come.
This road has been the most difficult project undertaken at Arunah Hill, to date. It climbs nearly 300 feet over a distance of 3/8 a mile. Over 2000 yards of gravel were trucked in to create the surface. Nearly 150 yards of stone was placed in muddy areas. The first car reached the Observing Clearing in 1995. Work continues on the road, with plans to cover it with crushed white limestone, providing a durable cement-like surface visible in the dark.
Parking off the Roadway or Parking Lot is discouraged.
