Building the Arunah Hill Pavilion

On August 17th, 2001, something very special happened at Arunah Hill. An open air pavilion was raised by some 54 people from Arunah Hill and The Heartwood School. After a year or so of planning by Project Managers Dave Bowman & Joe Zuraw, and months of hard work from our membership cutting down trees and milling them into timbers on Dave Bowman’s portable mill, we finally have a Pavilion!

The building was built using traditional post & beam methods, and was put into place using traditional barn raising methods. The raising took 7 hours to do, with another two days for roofing and cleanup.

The pavilion has already become a central gathering place on top of the hill. Its old-world charm just pulls you to it. It is a great source of pride to the members that built it. You can feel that pride when you enter the building! A hundred years from now, after all of us are gone, our handy work will still be standing in the form of this structure.
